High-Speed Length Controllers were designed for the measurement of the dynamic physical properties of all types of muscle and connective tissue. In addition to biological specimens, they can also be used to evaluate natural and synthetic polymers, fibres, films and coatings. The 300C Series of high-speed length controllers offer unique features and specifications that are not otherwise available. Details and specifications for all models are given below.
Fast transient response
Our fastest model, the 315C, can complete a step change in length in 200 microseconds. This model also permits small amplitude sinusoidal length changes at frequencies up to 3 kHz.
Instruments for single cells
With force ranges from 50 mN (5 grams) to 100.0 mN (10 grams) our high-speed length controllers cover a range of muscle tissue from single cells to whole muscles. The instruments are suitable for skeletal, cardiac and smooth muscle fibres, tendons, cartilage, eardrums and other biological and industrial materials.
Inputs, outputs, and controls
The muscle tissue length is controlled by input of an electronic waveform to the Length In connector. The actual length, as a function of time, is provided as a high-level analog signal at the Length Out connector. A gain switch is provided so that the output signal can be set to 1X, 5X or 10X. A digital voltmeter on the front panel shows the output signal in volts.
A knob is included on the front panel that allows the steady-state rest position of the arm to be set. The system design includes circuitry which prevents the motor from being driven beyond its safe operating limits.
